OUR COMMITMENTS
The choices that shape a garment.
The yarn against the skin.
The stretch through the waist.
The way a skirt falls.
At hello ronron, these details are considered together, from the first knit sample to the fit of the finished piece. Our work begins with how we want a garment to feel and move in the warmer climates we know.
Yarn
Yarn, with the garment in mind.
We consider softness, weight, stretch and drape together. A yarn may bring a fluid fall to a skirt or clearer definition to a rib; the knit structure changes how those qualities feel on the body.
Warm-climate dressing guides these decisions, alongside the shape of each design and the ease we want it to offer.
Construction
Fully Fashioned Knitwear
Knitted to shape, then linked.
Our garments are made using fully fashioned construction. Individual panels are knitted to the shapes required by the pattern, then carefully linked together to form the garment.
Shaping happens as each panel is knitted. This reduces the offcuts created when fabric is cut into pattern pieces, and allows the knit structure and silhouette to develop together.
A rib can follow the waist; a pleat can open through the skirt. These details help determine how the garment stretches, holds and falls.
Fit Development
Fit develops through making.
We develop our own patterns and proportions with East and Southeast Asian women in mind. Stretch is part of the pattern, considered alongside shoulder width, bust and waist placement, and length.
Sampling and fitting bring these decisions together. We adjust where a piece follows the body, where it holds and where it needs room to move. Feedback from women wearing the clothes informs the next round of development.
Finishing Details
Buttons, labels and the finish.
A garment's smaller details deserve the same attention as its knit. On buttoned designs, mother-of-pearl brings natural variation in texture and tone, with a subtle lustre that shifts with the light.
Our garment labels are chosen for a thin, soft feel, with ultrasonically cut edges for a smooth finish against the skin.
From skirt hems to necklines and cuffs, we choose stitches and edge finishes to suit each part of the garment, paying attention to softness, stretch and shape.
Small-batch Development
Small batches, continuing ideas.
Our collections develop through new designs and the return of familiar pieces. We make in small batches, revisiting a silhouette through colour, yarn or knit structure.
What we learn from one collection carries into the next.
Care & Repeated Wear
To be worn, and reached for again.
We hope each piece finds a lasting place in your wardrobe. How it is washed, dried and stored becomes part of its life after the studio.
